The groups control callsign is GW6SGR
We primarily operate on VHF and UHF voice frequencies in line with the latest published band plans.
In addition we can operate on HF bands providing inter-county and international links.
Although often using a single frequency, on multi-group excercises or those
involving large areas, we may operate on several frequencies or utilise cross-band
repeaters. At busy times neighbouring groups will liase on frequency usage.
For specific excercises/events please view the relevant diary entry for frequencies in use.
On excercise or operation we may use tactical callsigns such as "net control","rest-centre" "Police_Silver" or "RedCross_1". This simplifies communication especially if an operation/excercise is long enough to warrant the relief of operators for rest/work etc. Control need only recall the tactical callsign. To comply with licensing regulations operators will transmit their own callsigns and locations at the required time intervals.
South Glamorgan RAYNET like other groups has a set operating procedure to ensure smooth efficient communications between ourselves and in conjunction with user services. A link to the RAYNET operating procedures document may be found on the links page.
Groups callouts are initiated by the local authority emergency planning officer, often at the
request of a user service. RAYNET is included in local emergency plans and contact arrangements
pre-determined.
RAYNET does have a national emergency number and will put you in touch with your nearest
group in an emergency - the number is
  0141 621 2121
A callout procedure ensures that the initiating person is not tied up. A cascading tree based
telephone callout system is used to alert members who then assemble on air and await instructions
from the group controller or allocated net controller.
The detailed callout procedure document is available via the links page.
This page only gives brief information on RAYNET's operating methods, should you have any questions please do contact the group controller.
